How is it calculated?
If you are contracted for 15 hours or more a week and work all your scheduled days that week, you can receive weekly holiday pay.
- Holiday hours = (weekly hours ÷ 40) × 8 hours. Anything above 40 hours counts as 8 hours.
- Weekly holiday pay = holiday hours × hourly wage
- Estimated monthly pay = (weekly hours + holiday hours) × average weeks per month (about 4.345) × hourly wage
South Korea's minimum wage is 10,320 won an hour in 2026 and 10,700 won in 2027 (Ministry of Employment and Labor notice). The result tells you if your hourly wage is below the minimum.
Frequently asked questions
Q. If I miss one day, do I lose the allowance?
If you do not work all your scheduled days in a week, you usually do not get holiday pay for that week. Being late or leaving early is treated differently from an absence.
Q. What if I work less than 15 hours a week?
With fewer than 15 contracted hours a week, weekly holiday pay does not apply.
Q. My employer says holiday pay is included in my hourly wage.
Check whether your contract states that and how much. If it is included, the remaining hourly wage should still be at least the minimum wage. You can ask the Ministry of Employment and Labor call center (1350, foreign-language support available).
